The book might be very useful to the jazz theorist but it is head-spinning for the amateur seeking to learn improvisation. Levine's is a top-down approach to learning, by which I mean he goes through every scale, and every associated chord BEFORE you play anything other than scales and chords.

Again, not for amateurs and not very much fun/5(). 'Levine and Moreland have assembled a brilliant set of key readings on small groups. Not only should this be required reading for students at all levels, it also triggers a host of important research questions that undoubtedly will move this exciting field forward.

These books are gritty and raw, and take us on the journey of the Storm men. These men go hard and love harder. They're bossy, protective and loyal. And dirty as hell. All series are best read in order. You can read each series without having read the others, but for maximum enjoyment, I recommend reading them in the order they're listed on this page.
